To rosin extractors, microns refer to the fineness of rosin bags. A rosin bag’s fineness (low micron) or coarseness (high micron) has a direct impact on the rosin that comes out of the source material, so understanding the relationship between cannabis source material and microns is critical to pressing the best rosin.

What exactly is a micron? A micron is a unit of measurement that equals 1/1000th of a millimeter. The micron of a rosin bag refers to the distance across each one of the tiny holes that make up the filter. Smaller holes make the material feel finer, while larger holes make the material feel coarser.

The most common microns that rosin extractors look for are 15, 25, 37, 50, 75, 90, 120, 160, 220. 15-micron bags have tinier holes in the material, making for a finer filter. 220-micron bags have larger holes in the material which makes them a coarser filter that lets larger materials pass through.

The source material you’re using determines the best micron to select. For example, squishing cannabis flowers requires a larger micron size, since a higher percentage of unwanted lipids, tiny plant particles, and other compounds will be present. To accommodate for these extra materials that will be present in the rosin, larger gaps in the filter are required for everything to press out smoothly and completely. A steady and unobstructed flow is one of the key things to remember when pressing rosin.

When pressing bubble hash, the level of purity means that there aren’t as many unwanted compounds that will need to pass through the filter. Therefore, the lower micron sizes are most desirable, as the highly refined bubble hash material contains a low amount of excess oils that need to be filtered from the final product.

That said, here are the micron ranges we recommend for a variety of source material:

Flower = 75 microns and higher

Dry sift or Kief = 25-75 microns

Bubble Hash = 5-37 microns

Experiment with at least a couple different micron sizes when you’re first getting a feel for the starting material you’ll be using, to see which one gives you the best purity and yield.

The Press Club bags come in every micron size you’ll need.

Happy Pressing!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the best size micron rosin bag for pressing flower?
The best size micron rosin bags to use for pressing flower is between the range of 75 microns to 220 microns. The smaller the filter size (closer to 75 microns) the more contaminants like fats and waxes will be removed from the rosin during extraction. Yield generally increases with larger (closer to 220) micron sizes.

What is the best size micron rosin bag for pressing hash?
The best size micron rosin bags to use for pressing bubble hash is between the range of 15 microns to 37 microns. The smaller the filter size (closer to 15 microns) the more contaminants like fats and waxes will be removed from the rosin during extraction. Yield generally increases with larger (closer to 37) micron sizes.

What is the best size micron rosin bag for pressing dry sift?
The best size micron rosin bags to use for pressing dry sift is between the range of 25 microns to 50 microns. The smaller the filter size (closer to 25 microns) the more contaminants like fats and waxes will be removed from the rosin during extraction. Yield generally increases with larger (closer to 50) micron sizes.

What is the best micron rosin bag?
The best micron rosin bags for rosin depends on the type of cannais source material you're pressing. 15-37 micron bags are best for bubble hash, 25-50 microns for dry sift, and 75-220 microns for flower. Within these ranges, the lower microns provide more thorough filtration, while the higher microns lead to higher rosin yield.

What does a rosin bag do?
A rosin bag is used for cannabis rosin extraction. It acts as a filter through which rosin passes as it's extracted from cannabis material. Rosin bags can be used for cannabis flower, bubble hash, or dry sift and are made in various micron sizes for most effective filtration depending on the source material being pressed.
