The Press Club x Frenchy Cannoli's Annual Birthday Fundraiser: 2022 Origins Council
Todde Philips
🇺🇸 Retired veteran, father, rock-climbing expert & rosin connoisseur.
Frenchy Cannoli was an absolute legend in cannabis. There will never be another one quite like him.
Born in Nice, France, throughout his life he gained intimate knowledge of the plant and shared his experiences freely, contributing to hash makers in unique and invaluable ways. Frenchy was able to take his insights into trichome science and merge that with the traditional hash making techniques that he learned through extensive travels in historically producing regions.
From Morocco to Mexico, to Nepal, Pakistan, and India, Frenchy experienced first-hand how traditional solventless techniques have been utilized through the ages.
Frenchy’s hash was head and shoulders above the rest. It never mattered that it didn't always have the light-blond color that drives so much of the current demand for solventless products. He helped people understand that darker hash can be some of the highest quality stuff around. He also loved pressing and rolling loose resin into Temple Balls, an ancient practice that he helped bring back to life. Most people today into solventless extractions know about Temple Balls thanks to Frenchy.
Frenchy accomplished a lot during his life, but his accomplishments aren’t the highlight of his legacy. More than anything, it’s the impact he made on the art of hash making, and the lives of countless hash makers, that carries on in a major way.
Although Frenchy passed on from this world, his legacy is as strong as ever. At The Press Club, we’re humbled by the opportunity to help keep it alive.
What is the Origins Council?
Origins Council is a California nonprofit organization dedicated to sustainable rural economic development within cannabis producing regions. Their goal is to establish nationally and internationally recognized, legally defensible, standards-based, geographic indication systems for cannabis.
This vision is stunningly synergistic with what Frenchy was pressing for - a greater recognition of the importance of cannabis terroir. He knew that the specific land, soil, and overall environment in which a cannabis plant grows imparts a special and irreplaceable value on the crop.
Origins Council’s purpose is to support the legacy cannabis producing regions around the world. The organization works to drive global sustainable development and regenerative agriculture through the regulated production and research of high quality craft cannabis and herbal medicine products.
Promoting public policy and programs is central to Origin Council’s work. Initiatives that protect and promote these regions' legacy cannabis farmers and medicine makers including their genetic, cultural, natural and economic resources will benefit the entire cannabis industry.
Here at The Press Club, we’re completely aligned with this vision and excited to contribute to this far-reaching undertaking. Efforts in this direction are one of the best investments we can make in the industry, and in the people who drive it.
