Somewhere between the living and the dead, the world of zombies exists in an enigmatic limbo. While much less dramatic than the creatures popularized in contemporary culture, zombie bubble hash is definitely worth the attention of discerning cannabis connoisseurs. But how can hash be a little bit living and a little bit dead?
Bubble hash, or ice water hash as it’s also called, is made with a solventless extraction method that involves mixing ice, water, and cannabis. Agitating cannabis and ice water together knocks trichomes free from the plant material on which they grow. Extractors then use a series of filters called bubble wash bags to sieve these trichomes from the slurry, which yields bubble hash.
We can characterize bubble hash in part by the starting material from which it was extracted. For example, using fresh frozen cannabis to wash hash will create a product that’s referred to as “live”. Freezing cannabis immediately after it’s harvested helps to preserve many of the characteristics that the plant had while it was still living, with terpenes being the primary focus. Fresh frozen cannabis, and the hash which comes from it, generally has higher terpene content than cannabis that’s been dried and cured.
Cannabis material that’s dried and cured after harvest does not exude the same vitality as the fresh frozen material. Through drying, plant trichomes undergo some natural oxidation and lose a portion of the terpene content that existed while the plant was living. However, drying and curing also offers some advantages, primarily through the natural conversion of acidic cannabinoids into non-acidic cannabinoids This conversion (e.g. THC-A becoming THC) unlocks much of the therapeutic power of the cannabis plant.
So, we have fresh frozen (live) material bringing explosive levels of terpenes, and dried/cured (dead) material bringing power-packed psychoactive effects. What do we get when we wash hash from a combination of both types of starting material…
Zombie hash!!!
Zombie hash combines the best of both worlds. And if you’re lucky enough to reside fully in the land of the living, it’s definitely worth a try.
